Medical Gym Program
When facing the prospect of designing an exercise program and a diet plan, many people may be overwhelmed by the process, and may not know where to start. In addition to its exemplary level of physical therapy and massage care, Outpatient Physical Therapy is pleased to offer Medical Gym Services. This program is available to current, former and prospective patients and is administered in the Auburn clinic by John Payne, DPT. The focus of this program is to build overall body strength in order to cause body composition changes.
As a result of an injury, orthopedic condition, or muscle weakness, the body will learn to compensate for this impairment, which may lead to further physical limitations. Our Medical Gym Program is designed to address these issues. Exercise programs are administered in a safe environment under professional supervision by a licensed physical therapist. These professionals are trained in not only exercise science and physiology, but have the medical training necessary to ensure safety for patients with diabetes, heart conditions, or high blood pressure. Positive feedback and personal attention to the needs of each individual participant are an integral part of this program’s intent. This program encourages Nutrition Therapy provided by a Registered Dietitian, Certified Diabetic Educator on site. Nutrition education can refocus dietary change to assist in body composition change, metabolic changes and weight control.
This program can help take away the anxiety associated with beginning an exercise and diet plan. It empowers the patient to become more responsible for the management of their own personal health. The ultimate design of this program is to provide the patient with accountability and independence. Enrollment in this program includes access to a website which provides the patient with the ability to track progress, make goals and to make permanent and positive life changes.
